"Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool." —
Enmity against God has exactly 2 endings, and Scripture states them to the powers directly: "ye are gods… but ye shall die like men" (), served in Aramaic so the nations could read their own eviction notice (), executed by attrition ("he will famish all the gods of the earth" — ) — or: "worship him, all ye gods" (), "every knee… of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth" (). Bow, or lick the serpent's ration (; ). But every perish-notice in this file is served under — and between here and the bench runs a road with an Advocate on it (). Grace is sufficient (). Mercy endures forever. Patience is finite (; ). The Lord is "not willing that any should perish" () — and the strategy behind the whole docket is stated in one verse: "God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all" (). The case files follow; then the 3 doors: the meeting in the way, the willful ignorance that misses it, and the leap of faith that takes it.
| Adversary | Disposition and later development |
|---|---|
| Esau | Murder vowed and scheduled () — then personal reconciliation: Jacob ran, embraced, and wept (), and the brothers stood together at Isaac's grave (). Later texts assign continuing enmity to Amalek () and Edom, whose "perpetual hatred" () is traced to Herod the Idumean's opposition to the infant Seed. |
| Laban | Armistice, never reconciliation: restrained by the night-word (), sworn at the watchtower — and the parting kiss pointedly withheld: "kissed his sons and his daughters" — not Jacob (). The traditions carry the unresolved animus forward: the Haggadah's "sought to uproot the all"; the Targum's return as Balaam — the mouth forced to bless the couched Lion () — slain past his own oath-boundary (). WITNESS traditions |
| The Amorites | No peace recorded — and the account runs on the canon's own fullness-clock: "the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full" (): unresolved animus carried as a scheduled ledger — the appointed-times grammar applied to enmity itself. |
| The god | The engagement · disposition |
|---|---|
| Dagon | Twice prostrate before the ark; head and palms on the threshold by the second dawn () — the idol performed Ps 110:1 unassisted. |
| Bel & Nebo | "Bel boweth down, Nebo stoopeth" () — the bow-verbs applied to Babylon's chief and scribe; the pantheon as luggage. |
| Baal | Carmel, morning to noon: "no voice, nor any that answered" () — silent, then famished to a byword. |
| Nisroch | Sennacherib cut down while worshipping in his god's house () — the god who could not save his own kneeler. |
| The gods of Egypt | "Against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment" () — judged wholesale at midnight, plague by jurisdictional plague. And yet: "Blessed be Egypt my people" () — the judged nation enrolled by name. The door outlives the verdict on its gods. |
| Tammuz | The wept-for dying god, condemned as a liturgy-class at the temple's north gate () — the class Balder belongs to: the North's failed resurrection, held in Hel for want of 1 mourner, answered by the One who needed nobody's tears and holds the keys (Rev 1:18). WITNESS Eddic material |
| Rimmon | — grace's jurisprudence inside an idol's hall: "Go in peace" (). |
| Zeus & Hermes | The names tried to land on the servants at Lystra and were torn off: "we also are men of like passions" () — re-hosting refused; "turn from these vanities unto the living God" is the standing offer inside the refusal. |
| Dionysus | The vine-god with a dated rap sheet in the covenant record: compelled ivy processions under Antiochus (), and covenant people registered and branded with his ivy-leaf sign under Ptolemy IV (). Plutarch read Tabernacles as a vintage rite of Dionysus; the canonical displacement is stated plainly: "I am the true vine" (). WITNESS Maccabean record · CONVICTION typological reading |

The Lord's own counsel to every defendant is a road-map: "Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge" () — the settlement window is the road, and it closes at the bench. And the Father's choreography runs the road from the other end: "when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and ran" (); the statecraft version sends "an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace" while the armies are still distant (). The revocation statute stands in force (); Nineveh is its case law (); and Nebuchadnezzar is its royal showcase — the sentence itself carried a rehabilitative intent clause (), and the beast-king who lifted his eyes was restored to his throne (). And this season the road was drawn in the sky, dated and checkable — with : Rhadamanthus, the underworld's incorruptible, seated in the Scales this very year by his 3rd, unretracted entry — the court convened before the defendants arrived. Then — the Advocate out from that bench after her standstill at his seat; the date-only ledger places the Amun and Zeus approaches on civil October 17 and 18, whose corresponding sunrise-numbered house labels are Tishri 21 and 22, but the exact instants are needed to place either relative to Jerusalem sunrise. Zeus then reached the Judge's longitude about a week later, passing at about 1.03° actual angular separation — and the ledger silent on the verdict. The road can be missed, and the canon prosecutes the miss as a choice. "For this they willingly are ignorant of" () — wanting-not-to-know, aimed at the flood the scoffers decline to remember. "Ye have not, because ye ask not" () — and the same epistle opened with the knowledge-clause: wisdom given "to all men liberally, and upbraideth not," on request (). Wisdom's own complaint names the charge — "I have called, and ye refused" () — and her terrible clause is the famine arriving on schedule: "then shall they call… but I will not answer… for that they hated knowledge" (; ); "destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge" () — lack as verdict, not circumstance. The Lord's version is aimed at sky-readers who won't read: competent on the weather, blind to the hour () — and the city fell under that count: "because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation" (). Once the trumpet sounds, the liability transfers: "his blood shall be upon his own head… but he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul" (). Caught unaware, by choice. SPINE
The gods are not atheists. "The devils also believe, and tremble" () — the powers knew exactly whom they were opposing, which is why belief was never the leap. The leap is to trust the offer of mercy — to stake everything on grace being sufficient even for them (). The pattern is Joseph's table: the brothers who did him dirty stand terrified before the throne they created, and the offended one says "Come near to me… be not grieved… God did send me before you to preserve life" () — "ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good" (): the wronged party funds the reconciliation. The pattern is the cross itself: "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do" () — mercy filed on the executioners' behalf, mid-execution, covering even the ignorance. And the pattern has a named modern instance: Saul of Tarsus — "a blasphemer, and a persecutor" who "obtained mercy" (), confronted with "why persecutest thou me" (), and enrolled "that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe" (). The chief adversary of the church is the canon's designated proof that no case is beyond the statute. SPINE
The economy of the leap is stated by the Lord at a Pharisee's table: "to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little" — and its inverse: the one forgiven of much also loves much (). The accounts above point to the exhibit's appeal: the worst debtors become the greatest lovers, the far country produces the feast's guest of honor, and "if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature… God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses" () — with the jurisdiction stated at full width: "to reconcile all things unto himself… whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven" (). Free will, and space to repent (), because he is "not willing that any should perish" () — even one-time sworn enemies who humble themselves in time. . SPINE texts · CONVICTION interpretation
| First step | How, exactly |
|---|---|
| If you are the adversary | Settle in the way, today (). The Advocate stands (); the leap is not believing — you already believe — but trusting that the mercy extends to your case. Saul's file is on record precisely so you cannot claim yours is worse (). Say it aloud, alone, tonight: the Father runs. |
| Blow the trumpet plainly | The watchman's whole liability is the clarity of the blast (). Publish the warning and the invitation in the same breath — never one without the other — and let the accountability change hands. |
| Set the Joseph table | Name the 1 person who did you dirt whom God has since positioned you above. This month, fund their good — provision, not lecture — and say "come near to me" first (). The wronged party funds the reconciliation; that is the family trade. |
| Pray for your era's Saul | Name the loudest adversary of the faith you can think of, and pray for their Damascus road by name, weekly. The chief persecutor is the designated pattern-case; intercession for him is not naivety — it is fluency in the pattern. |
| Refuse the Timna door | Audit whom your gates have turned away (). The closed door breeds Amalek; the open one seats a Saul. Err on the side of the feast. |
| Ask | Wisdom is given liberally, without scolding, on request (). One asked question a day, of the Word first and the free stack second — ignorance from this hour forward is a choice, so choose the other thing. |
