The False Cloak, the False Morsel, and the False Spirit
Deliverance for the deceived. God promised a way of escape; the garments come off, the morsel comes up, and the spirit goes out — all at the appointed time.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful… will with the temptation also make a way to escape.
1 Corinthians 10:13
I
The keystone at Laodicea
One letter names all three.
The last of the seven churches, , is rich and increased with goods and knows not that it is wretched, and poor, and blind, and naked. In three verses it receives a rebuke and remedies. This exhibit reads them through its three motifs; the passage does not itself name a false morsel or a false spirit.
The morsel
“I will spue thee out of my mouth.”
The cloak
“Buy of me… white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed.”
The spirit
“Anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.”
Revelation 3:16–18.
II
Judge nothing before the time
The frame is mercy, not indictment.
In Zechariah’s vision, Joshua the high priest stands in filthy garments, and the adversary stands at his right hand to resist him. The LORD rebukes the accuser, not the priest. The garments are taken off by command, and he is clothed with change of raiment.
Paul sets the same order: judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and make manifest the counsels of the hearts. Scripture repeatedly separates deception from defiance:
“Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.”
“Brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it.”
“The times of this ignorance God winked at.”
“I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.”
“A zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.”
Acts 17:30 in the King James says God winked at the times of ignorance.
III
The False Cloak — removed
Garments put on to stand before men; taken off to stand before God.
The true garment is Christ himself: the Benefit of Christ calls faith the putting on of his innocence, and Isaiah the robe of righteousness. The false cloak is a covering accepted from a temporal power in exchange for a benefit or a permission. Across the nations it comes in four cuts. Each entry names a mechanism and never a wearer.
Select a cloak to lift it.
The pattern predates the American candidate-campaign restriction. Charity law, with the advancement of religion as a charitable purpose, has English roots in the Charitable Uses Act of 1601 and Pemsel’s case of 1891. These legal frameworks differ across countries: a limit on candidate endorsement is not the same as a general prohibition on speaking about public policy.
The trade encodes a voluntary humility before a temporal power — a covering sought from the state rather than from Christ.
IV
The False Morsel — vomited up
What was swallowed at the wrong table does not stay down.
He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.
Job 20:15
The portion of the king’s meat
“Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat.”
Daniel 1:8
The benefit that comes from the ruler’s table and puts the eater in the ruler’s debt. Daniel asked leave not to eat it, and was granted favour.
The bread of the evil eye
“Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye… The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up.”
Proverbs 23:6–8
The gift with strings: “Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.”
The portion that destroys
“Yea, they that feed of the portion of his meat shall destroy him.”
Daniel 11:26
Those fed from a king’s table become the instruments of his fall — the Great Unwind in a single verse.
The table of devils
“Ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.”
1 Corinthians 10:21
Communion with what the altar serves. Heywood’s proverb keeps the warning alive: he must have a long spoon that eats with the devil.
V
The False Spirit — cast out
Another Jesus, another spirit, another gospel.
Paul feared that, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, the church’s minds would be corrupted from the simplicity in Christ — by one preaching another Jesus, a different spirit, or another gospel. John’s test is plain: try the spirits. Jesus warned the deception would be strong enough to take the very elect, if it were possible.
Another Jesus
A Christ preached without his return as King, or without his body.
Another spirit
A power received that does not confess Jesus Christ come in the flesh (1 John 4:2–3).
Another gospel
Good news that measures blessing by temporal increase, or promises escape in place of the Return.
The command at the deliverance is two-fold: come out, and enter no more. The deceiver himself is bound so that he should deceive the nations no more, and at the end is cast into the lake.
The prayer for a rapture in place of the Return is catalogued here as another gospel: escape offered where the Scriptures promise the King.
VI
The deceivers and the deceived
Two ends to one season.
The dead are judged according to their works, and many that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake.
In the Wellkeeper’s reading, the deceivers fell at the , before the heavens rend; the deceived — those who took the cloak, the morsel or the spirit in a climate of engineered deception, not in willful defiance — are judged on their works, and many are raised with clarity. The intercession for the dead does not return void to a God who is not willing that any should perish.
The counter-text, with context
“Because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” — 2 Thessalonians 2:10–12.
The delusion falls on those who received not the love of the truth and had pleasure in unrighteousness. The exhibit reads that as a named class — the willing — and distinguishes it from the ignorance of 1 Timothy 1:13. The verse itself does not draw that line for us; the distinction is a reading, not a reading-off.
VII
Lay it down
Questions to take to local guidance or counsel, not instructions to restructure. General information, not legal advice; recheck rules before acting.
United States
First stepDistinguish candidate endorsement from issue advocacy; declining a determination letter alone does not remove 501(c)(3) conditions.
WhereIRS Publication 1828 and current IRS political-activity guidance; a tax attorney before any restructuring.
The cost to countTax treatment, donation deductibility and reporting depend on the legal structure. Do not assume that non-application or a different code section removes every restriction.
England and Wales
First stepCheck whether your congregation must register, is excepted, or already holds charitable status; review current thresholds before changing structure.
WhereCharity Commission guidance and your denomination’s trust body; local legal advice.
The cost to countRegistration, charitable status, tax relief and Gift Aid are separate questions; do not assume they all change together.
Canada and Australia
First stepRead the rules for your organization's current charitable status, including the difference between partisan activity and policy dialogue.
WhereCRA Charities Directorate or ACNC guidance; local legal advice.
The cost to countChanges to registration can affect receipting and concessions; exact consequences vary by jurisdiction and entity.
Germany
First stepFile a Kirchenaustritt to leave the civil church roll; free churches outside the church-tax system already gather.
WhereThe registry office or local court, depending on the state; a fee is charged in some states.
The cost to countLoss of membership rights in the state church.
Italy and Spain
First stepMark the choice on the annual return deliberately. Unassigned shares are still distributed in proportion to others’ choices.
WhereThe otto per mille or 0.7% box on the income-tax return.
The cost to countNone beyond the choice.
China and Russia
First stepNamed here only as witness. The house churches have counted this cost themselves; no one should be coached into jeopardy from a distance.
Where—
The cost to countReal, and theirs to weigh.
In every case the first step is the same: read the actual terms that apply to your organization, distinguish candidate campaigning from ordinary issue advocacy, and seek local advice before changing its status.

What this exhibit does not claim
Consistent-with is never proven-by.
It names no congregation, minister or believer. Every entry is a mechanism.
It is not legal or tax advice; the laws cited change, and the American rule is under appeal as of September 2026.
The spiritual reading of each covering, and the order of judgment in Movement VI, are the Wellkeeper’s convictions, labelled as such.
