The wings, the wires, the sieve — and the rejoining of the region Daniel served.
Consistent-with is never proven-by. Every era has read this verse as its own; that fact is on the ledger below.
MOVEMENT I
The Verse, With Both Its Faces
"Shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased." The roving verb is a searching verb elsewhere — the LORD's eyes run to and fro through the whole earth; men wander to seek the word and do not find it. And the verse has two ancient faces: where the Hebrew and Theodotion read knowledge multiplied, the Old Greek reads the earth filled with injustice — a live variant, carried here in full, because an honest exhibit notes that the information age answers uncomfortably well to both readings at once. The scholarly competitor is also named at the door: many take the running to and fro as searching through the sealed book itself — intensified study of Daniel at the end. The logistics reading and the study reading are not exclusive; this exhibit is, unavoidably, an instance of the second while cataloging the first.
DANIEL 12:4 IN THREE TEXTS
Many shall run to and fro (yeshotetu), and knowledge (ha-da'at) shall be increased.
The roving-search verb; knowledge multiplied.
MOVEMENT II
The Wings and the Wires
The numbers are not gradual. International movement multiplied roughly fifty-eight-fold inside one human lifetime. Literacy went from one reader in ten to nine in ten; the online population went from zero to two-thirds of the species in thirty-five years. And the planet's busiest gate between the nations is not London or New York: by international passengers, it has been Dubai, every year since 2014 — the run-to-and-fro crown sitting in the Arabian desert, in the region the prophet served.
THE CURVES — ELBOWS INSIDE LIVING MEMORY
≈ 25 million (1950) → ≈ 1.46 billion (2019)(~58×)
MOVEMENT III
The Sieve
The third logistic is newest: machines that sift. Consumer translation dissolved the Babel-barrier for everyday speech across a hundred-plus languages; language-model assistants reached hundred-million-user scale faster than any technology on record, and their working function in scholarship is exactly the verb of the verse — roving search, retrieval, comparison, distillation. This exhibit does not exempt itself: it was composed in co-labor with such an assistant, which retrieved its sources and its counter-sources alike, and the disclosure sits in the apparatus where a reader can weigh it.
And the sieve runs both directions. The Arabic-only reader can now read anything ever written; the non-Arabic reader can open the Quran, the tafsir, and the Arabic press for himself. Every characterization of every scripture — hostile or friendly — is now checkable against the text by anyone with a phone. This exhibit does not predict what each reader will conclude; it records that the age of the intermediary monopoly, in which whole populations knew each other's books only by rumor, is over.
MOVEMENT IV
The Region Rejoins
Inside one decade, the peninsula that was long the hardest ground on earth for open religious coexistence produced: a Ministry of Tolerance; the first papal Mass in Arabian history and the Document on Human Fraternity co-signed with al-Azhar; tourist visas to the previously closed kingdom; the Abraham Accords; and the Abrahamic Family House — mosque, church, and synagogue purpose-built on one campus. A World Cup in Doha drew visiting fans by the million into a Gulf capital. And the Persian diaspora scattered after 1979 now functions as a living bridge between the West and the very court-civilization Daniel served in — Susa, where his traditional tomb still stands. The travel-safety data run with the traffic, not against it: homicide rates in the UAE, Qatar, and Oman sit below one per hundred thousand — an order of magnitude safer than common Western vacation comparators — and the gap between measured risk and perceived risk is itself measurable. Two further data for the common-ground reading: the UAE has repeatedly served as the neutral broker of Russia–Ukraine prisoner exchanges — Swiss-type diplomacy from a Gulf capital — and the Burj Khalifa has stood as the world's tallest building since 2010 through a turbulent regional era, a standing datum carried with its fence: Abu Dhabi itself was struck in 2022, so what is claimed is a record, not an immunity.
FENCEBoth clauses, stated
Openness for trade, traffic, and worship-space is documented above; limits on political speech and labor rights in the same states are documented elsewhere and are not disputed here. Both clauses are true; a ledger that carries only one is an advertisement. Likewise the perception gap: this exhibit reports that fear of these destinations is miscalibrated against the homicide and advisory data, and imputes no motive to anyone for the miscalibration.
MOVEMENT IV·B
The Moved Peoples
The same wings that carry tourists carry migrants, and the decade's largest movement ran from Arabic-speaking lands into European cities — over a million asylum applications in 2015–16 alone. The exhibit carries both documented clauses: integration measurably improving with years of residence in the longitudinal data, and real strains — housing, welfare, crime debates, backlash — in the same record. Neither the invasion frame nor the seamless-blessing frame survives the numbers; predictions of how it resolves are predictions, tiered as such on either side. And the to-and-fro is not only westward: Islam's own pilgrimage pillar was aviation-scaled from tens of thousands to millions — the largest recurring international gathering on earth — while remittance rivers carry hundreds of billions home each year. The moved peoples move in every direction the verse's verb allows.
MOVEMENT V
The Regime Ledger Since Camp David
From the Accords of 1978–79 forward, the documented sequence: Iran 1979; Sadat 1981; Saddam's rise 1979 and fall 2003; the 2011 wave through Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, and Yemen; Egypt again 2013; Sudan 2019; Damascus in December 2024. The sequence is documentary. Its causes are contested — oil economics, great-power policy, demographics — and the cause most relevant to this exhibit is the least conspiratorial: the 2011 wave organized itself on the very run-to-and-fro instruments cataloged in Movements II and III. The logistics of Daniel 12:4, whatever else they are, were the operating system of the region's own upheavals.
FENCENo conductor is claimed
This movement carries a sequence, not an orchestration. Providential readings of the sequence belong to the author's conviction tier and are held there; the ledger asserts dates and events only.
MOVEMENT VI
The Schoolmaster and the Promise
Galatians 3:24–25 names the office: the law was a paidagōgos — a schoolmaster — "to bring us unto Christ... but after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster." Read Islam under that office and the reading has pedigree, not novelty: an eighth-century patriarch under the caliphate granted Muhammad an idol-breaking prophetic function to the caliph's face, and the modern magisterium places the people of the Abrahamic profession inside the plan. The curriculum was real and the pupils were diligent: five daily prayers, a month-long fast, memorization culture, held at civilizational scale for fourteen centuries — disciplines the Western Christian mainstream progressively set down; the fence is carried that the Orthodox east never did. And the schoolroom had a ceiling of stars: the majority of the West's named stars answer in Arabic — Aldebaran, Altair, Vega, Deneb — named and preserved by the pupils while Latin Europe forgot its Almagest. A people schooled that hard in the oneness of God, now handed the logistics of Movements II and III, can take inventory of the Messiah's evidence for themselves — which is what a schoolmaster's work looks like when it approaches completion, on the anchor verse's own grammar.
And the promise ran under the schooling the whole time. Hagar is the first person in Scripture to name God — El Roi, the God who sees me. "I have blessed him," said of Ishmael directly. God with the lad in the wilderness. The estranged brothers side by side at Abraham's grave. Kedar and Nebaioth — Ishmael's firstborn, by name — accepted on the altar of the restoration; Egypt my people, Assyria the work of my hands, Israel mine inheritance. The ledger engages Galatians 4's bondwoman allegory in full rather than hiding from it — the citation carries the engagement — because an exhibit that quotes chapter 3 and evades chapter 4 deserves the reader it loses. And the closing scene is filed where it belongs: the King of Matthew 25 commends the righteous for service they did not know they rendered; the author's conviction imagines that grammar spoken over the sons of Ishmael — thank your brother; he had your back — and labels the imagining as imagining. The documented miracle needs no imagination at all: across fourteen centuries of opportunity, neither house of Abraham erased the other, and the two grew into the largest communities in human history — together more than half the living species, the patriarch's stars outnumbering any count he attempted. Unity in Truth. Love conquers all — as process, ending at a table.
FENCES
The Honesty Cards
FENCEEvery era has claimed this verse
Steam-age and telegraph-age expositors read Daniel 12:4 as fulfilled in their wires and rails; the aviation age read it in flight; this exhibit reads it in jets, fiber, and models. A verse every generation can claim discriminates no generation — unless the curve itself discriminates. The exhibit's one structural argument is the elbow: the multiplications above are not linear across the eras that claimed them; they hockey-stick inside living memory. Whether an elbow answers the base-rate objection or merely restates it with better charts is left, honestly, to the reader.
FENCENewton, cited; the legend, fenced
Newton's Observations genuinely treats 12:4 as promising increased understanding toward the end — the logistics reading has a pedigree. The famous fifty-miles-an-hour prediction and Voltaire's scoff are a later anecdote of uncertain provenance, and nothing here rests on them.
FENCEWhat this exhibit does not adjudicate
The war in Gaza and the legal and moral questions surrounding it are the region's open wound, and this exhibit deliberately renders no verdict on them. The genocide question sits before courts, commissions, and scholars whose findings conflict and whose final rulings are not yet given; publics have shifted and remain deeply divided, and the same period has seen documented surges in hostility toward Jews and Muslims alike in Western cities — division, not unity. An exhibit whose purpose is the Genesis 12:3 invitation refuses to seat itself as the tribunal; it sets the table and leaves the gavel where it lies.
CONVICTIONWhat is conviction here
That the present acceleration is the intended referent of the unsealing; that the region's reintegration is providential preparation of the ground; and that the geography now knitting itself together lies within the future footprint of New Jerusalem with its cornerstone at Moriah — the author's owned readings, argued in the companion exhibits, resting on the documented movements above but not proven by them. No date is attached to any of it, and Daniel's own closing instruction stands over the whole: go thy way, and rest, and stand in thy lot.

Sources
[1]
Daniel 12:4 (MT)
'Shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro (yeshotetu rabbim), and knowledge (ha-da'at) shall be increased (tirbeh).' The verb shut elsewhere describes roving in search: the LORD's eyes run to and fro (2 Chr 16:9); men wander to seek the word of the LORD and do not find it (Amos 8:12); run through the streets and seek (Jer 5:1).
[2]
Daniel 12:4, Theodotion
'…until many are taught (didachthōsin polloi) and knowledge is multiplied (plēthynthē hē gnōsis).' The church's standard Greek Daniel reads instruction and knowledge.
[3]
Daniel 12:4, Old Greek (LXX/OG)
'…until many rave madly (apomanōsin hoi polloi) and the earth is filled with injustice (adikias).' The OG appears to read ha-ra'ot ('evils') where MT reads ha-da'at ('knowledge') — a live text-critical variant some scholars judge original. Carried on the ledger: the anchor verse itself has two ancient faces, knowledge multiplied or evil multiplied. The honest reader holds both; the present age arguably answers to both.
[4]
The 'searching the book' reading
A well-represented scholarly reading takes yeshotetu with the sealed book itself: many shall search THROUGH it and knowledge (of the vision) shall increase — i.e., the verse promises intensified study of Daniel at the end, not transportation. Named as the competitor to the logistics reading throughout this exhibit; the two are not exclusive.
[5]
International tourist arrivals, 1950–2019 (UN Tourism)
Roughly 25 million international arrivals in 1950; about 1.46 billion in 2019 — a ~58-fold multiplication in one lifetime, before the pandemic pause and the subsequent recovery. No prior century of human history shows movement between nations at any comparable order of magnitude.
[6]
Dubai International (DXB) — world's busiest international airport since 2014
By international passenger traffic — travelers actually crossing between nations — DXB has ranked first in the world every year since 2014 (ACI rankings). Atlanta leads total passengers on domestic volume; the between-the-nations crown sits in the Arabian desert.
[7]
Internet adoption and global literacy
On ITU figures, roughly two-thirds of humanity is online — on the order of 5.5 billion people. Global literacy has risen from roughly one person in ten in the early 19th century to nearly nine in ten today (Our World in Data). The reading public of the entire prior history of the world is a rounding error against the present one.
[8]
Machine translation and AI adoption
Consumer machine translation now operates across 100+ languages at conversational quality, dissolving the Babel-barrier for everyday use; large-language-model assistants reached hundred-million-user scale faster than any prior consumer technology on record. Their function in research practice is precisely sifting: retrieval, comparison, and distillation of sources at speeds no unaided scholar can match.
[9]
Disclosure — this exhibit is itself an artifact of the sieve
Composed in co-labor between the author and an AI research assistant that retrieved, checked, and counter-checked its sources — including the counter-evidence on its own ledger. The exhibit does not exempt itself from its subject: it exists because the sifting it describes exists. Read that as consonance or as caution; the ledger permits both.
[10]
The Gulf reintegration dossier (2014–2023)
UAE Ministry of Tolerance established 2016. Pope Francis in Abu Dhabi, February 2019 — the first papal Mass in the Arabian Peninsula's history, with the Document on Human Fraternity co-signed by the Grand Imam of al-Azhar. Saudi tourist visas opened 2019. Abraham Accords signed 2020. Abrahamic Family House — mosque, church, and synagogue on one purpose-built campus — opened Abu Dhabi 2023. FIFA World Cup hosted in Doha 2022, with visiting fans on the order of 1.4 million.
[11]
Safety data — Gulf states vs. common comparators
Intentional homicide rates (UNODC order-of-magnitude): UAE, Qatar, and Oman below 1 per 100,000; Costa Rica near 17 (2023 record); Mexico above 25. Global Peace Index places Qatar and Oman among the world's most peaceful states year over year. US State Department advisories have typically held UAE/Qatar/Oman at Levels 1–2 while multiple Mexican states carry Levels 3–4. The perception-versus-data gap is measurable; this exhibit reports the gap and imputes no motive for it.
[12]
The Persian bridge
The post-1979 Iranian diaspora — millions strong, concentrated in medicine, engineering, technology, and commerce across North America and Europe — functions as a living cultural bridge between the West and the court-civilization Daniel personally served (Dan 8:2, Susa; his traditional tomb stands there). Census-grade demographic fact; the providential reading of it is conviction.
[13]
Regime-change sequence since Camp David (1978–2024)
Documented sequence: Iranian Revolution 1979; Sadat assassinated 1981; Saddam's accession 1979 and fall 2003; Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Yemen 2011; Egypt again 2013; Sudan 2019; Assad's fall December 2024. The SEQUENCE is documentary. Its causes are contested among oil economics, great-power policy, demographics, and — notably for this exhibit — the communications technology itself: the 2011 wave organized on the very run-to-and-fro tools this exhibit catalogs. No orchestration is claimed; the ledger carries the sequence, not a conductor.
[14]
Newton on Daniel 12:4 — and the apocryphal quote
Isaac Newton's Observations upon the Prophecies of Daniel treats 12:4 as promising increased understanding near the end. The famous embellishment — Newton predicting travel 'above fifty miles an hour' and Voltaire scoffing — is a later anecdote of uncertain provenance and is NOT relied on here. Cited to show the logistics reading's pedigree and to fence its favorite legend in the same breath.
[15]
Every era has read this verse as its own
Railway-age and telegraph-age expositors claimed Daniel 12:4 for steam and wire; the aviation age claimed it for flight; the internet age claims it now. This is the base-rate card: a verse every generation can claim discriminates no generation — UNLESS the curve itself discriminates. The exhibit's one structural argument is that the curves are not linear but hockey-sticked within living memory; the reader may weigh whether an elbow in the curve answers the base-rate objection or merely restates it.
[16]
Translation runs both directions
Free machine translation means the Arabic-only reader can now read anything — and the non-Arabic reader can read the Quran, tafsir, and Arabic press for himself rather than through hostile or friendly intermediaries. Characterizations of any scripture can now be checked against the text by anyone with a phone. Whatever each reader concludes, the intermediary monopoly is over — in both directions.
[17]
The Hajj, aviation-scaled; and the remittance rivers
Islam's own pillar of pilgrimage was transformed by the same wings: from tens of thousands making the overland/sea Hajj in the pre-aviation era to 2–3 million annually in the jet age — the largest recurring international gathering on earth, running on the logistics this exhibit catalogs. Global remittances — migrant workers wiring earnings home — now exceed $650B per year, a to-and-fro of persons and provision with no historical precedent.
[18]
The mediator emirates; the tower, with its fence
The UAE brokered repeated large-scale Russia–Ukraine prisoner exchanges (2023–2024) — documented neutral-venue diplomacy of the classic Swiss type. The Burj Khalifa has stood as the world's tallest building since January 2010 through a turbulent regional decade and a half. The fence: the UAE itself was struck — Houthi drone/missile attacks reached Abu Dhabi in January 2022, killing three. Dubai's towers untouched is a datum; invulnerability is not claimed, and the 'cultural Switzerland' reading is scaffold, not spine.
[19]
The moved peoples — both clauses
The 2015–16 movement brought over a million asylum applications into Europe in a single year, with millions more across the decade — among the largest peacetime migrations in the continent's record. Both clauses are documented and both are carried: longitudinal German data show refugee employment and language integration improving markedly with years of residence, alongside real, documented strains — housing, welfare loads, crime debates, and political backlash. Neither the 'invasion' frame nor the 'seamless blessing' frame survives the data; the ledger carries the mixture. Predictions of how it resolves — the skeptic's caliphate or the author's reconciliation — are predictions, and both are tiered as such.
[20]
The pedagogical reading's pedigree — Timothy I (781) and Lumen Gentium 16
Patriarch Timothy I of the Church of the East, in his recorded dialogue with Caliph al-Mahdi (781 CE), granted that Muhammad 'walked in the path of the prophets' in teaching the one God and turning peoples from idols — an 8th-century Christian leader, living under the caliphate, assigning Islam an idol-breaking pedagogical role. Lumen Gentium 16 (1964) places Muslims first among those 'who acknowledge the Creator... professing to hold the faith of Abraham' within the plan of salvation. The schoolmaster reading is a recovery, not a novelty.
[21]
The Ishmael text chain — with Galatians 4 engaged, not evaded
Hagar is the first person in Scripture to NAME God: El Roi, 'the God who sees me' (Gen 16:13). Of Ishmael God says directly, 'I have blessed him' (17:20); 'God heard the voice of the lad... and God was with the lad' (21:17–20). Isaac and Ishmael bury Abraham together (25:9). Isaiah names Ishmael's firstborn sons — Kedar and Nebaioth (cf. Gen 25:13) — as acceptable worshippers at the restored altar (Isa 60:7), and blesses Egypt-my-people and Assyria-the-work-of-my-hands beside Israel (19:24–25). The problem text is on this ledger in full: Galatians 4:21–31 allegorizes Hagar as Sinai-bondage and quotes 'cast out the bondwoman.' Engaged: Paul's target is Judaizing covenant-mechanics, not Arab ethnography — his 'Hagar' is law-keeping Jerusalem — and the Genesis narrative itself resolves the casting-out at the shared grave of 25:9. A reader may weigh the engagement; what is not done here is omission.
[22]
The schoolmaster's curriculum — practice and stars; both clauses
Documented disciplines held at civilizational scale for fourteen centuries: five daily prayers, the Ramadan month-fast, memorization culture. Documented stellar heritage: the majority of traditional named stars in Western catalogs — Aldebaran, Altair, Vega, Rigel, Deneb, Betelgeuse, Fomalhaut and scores more — carry Arabic names, transmitted through al-Sufi's Book of Fixed Stars (964) and the Arabic preservation of the Almagest while Latin Europe had largely lost it. The fence: the comparison to Christian decline is a provocation about the WESTERN mainstream, not a census — Eastern Orthodoxy retains one of the most demanding fasting calendars in any faith, and monastic hours never ceased. Both clauses carried.
[23]
The commendation scene — Matthew 25's surprise structure, and a fenced imagination
In the judgment scene the King commends the righteous for service they did not know they had rendered — 'Lord, when saw we thee?... Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me' (Matt 25:37–40). The canonical structure is surprise-commendation across an unrecognized relation. The author's scene — the Lord telling the sons of Ishmael 'thank your brother; he had your back' — is a conviction-tier midrash built on that structure. It is imagination in Matthew 25's grammar, labeled as imagination.
