The Sifting of the Ekklesia
ON THE NIGHT OF THE EIGHTH DAY
A post-game audit of the long night — the night of the eighth dayThe Wellkeeper's name for the 1525–2025 season — a conviction-tier chronology, fenced in Movement V; the audit's structures stand on statute without it. — and the machinery built to convert the ekklesiaGreek: the called-out assembly — the New Testament's word for the church as a summoned people, not a building, institution, or clerical structure. into an administered laity: read against the parable that outlined the strategy in advance, and against the one commodity the machinery could neither mint nor confiscate.
The sifting of the church is not a modern suspicion; it is Satan's stated request, on the record, with the target named: that faith — pistis — should fail. The long night's machinery is legible as a specialization of the sower's four soils: intercept the seed (manufactured consensus), scorch the rooted (orchestrated shunning), choke the growing (the corral of tolerated, registered, distracted dissent) — and, against the one soil no mechanism defeats, prevent the soil itself: the displacement of the household, faith's native seedbed, into administered formation. The audit below documents each architecture from statute and record. And the verdict is in the sieve's own physics, written in Amos before the night began: the sifting was requested by one and supervised by Another, with a floor under it — not the least grain lost. What passes through a sieve is not the chaff.
The Chain of Logic — a reader's map
I.Scripture records that a sifting of the ekklesia was requested by Satan, that its named target is faith (pistis) — and that faith's trust-core (fiducia) cannot be compelled by any statute: law can reach assent, never trust.
II.The parable of the sower, in the Lord's own interpretation, names three mechanisms against sown seed — interception, persecution, choking — and one soil no mechanism defeats: the honest and good heart.
III.The historical record shows three architectures matching those mechanisms, documented from 17th-century English statute: manufactured consensus (licensed press, surveyed pulpit), orchestrated shunning (ejection, criminalized assembly, exile), and the corral (dissent registered and contained rather than freed).
IV.Against the fourth soil, the remaining move is to prevent the soil: Movement IV audits the displacement of the household — faith's seedbed in Scripture — into administered formation. The claim is displacement, nothing stronger.
V.The author's convictions — the dates of the night, and intent behind the architectures — are fenced apart from the record, labeled, and never load-bearing.
VI.The record of where faith actually survived, and the verdict: the sieve's own mechanics, promised in Amos, kept the grain. What passes through the sieve is precisely the wheat.
Terms and statutes underlined in gold carry definitions — hover or tap them. No prior knowledge of the period is assumed.
"like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth" — Amos 9:9. The sifting was requested by one, supervised by Another — with the coarse sieve of the promise, through which the grain passes and the pebbles are caught. What passes through the sieve is precisely the wheat.
Movement I — The Charter
The sifting announced, the question left open
The texts that authorize the audit: the request, the target-word, and the open question of the age.
The sifting is announced in Scripture — by the sifter's request.
'Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat.' The program is on the record, the plural is in the Greek — sift YOU-all — and the target is named in the next clause: 'that thy faith (pistis) fail not.' Whatever else the long night was, it was not unforeseen. And the countermeasure filed against it is neither institution nor uniformity nor governance: 'I have prayed for thee.' The sieve was answered with intercession before it was ever shaken.
The question of the age is attached to a widow, not an exam.
'When the Son of man cometh, shall he find THE faith (tēn pistin) on the earth?' The question closes the parable of the persistent widow — a powerless woman against an institutional judge who feared not God nor regarded man. Christ set His open question about the end of the age inside a portrait of faith versus governed framework: the unjust bench, and the knock that does not stop. The question was open, and only partly rhetorical — which is this exhibit's warrant for conducting an audit at all.
Pistis: the word, and why the machinery could not touch it.
From peithō, to persuade: trust, faithfulness, the deposit of the faith, assurance. Hebrew emunah — the amen-root, firmness: holding-fast-because-held-fast. The Reformation's own analysts split saving faith into notitia (knowledge), assensus (assent), and fiduciaTrust — the resting of the person on the Person; the third component of faith in the Reformed analysis (after knowledge and assent), and the one no statute can compel. (trust) — and noted that devils hold the first two (James 2:19). Now read the statute: the Act of UniformityEnglish statute of 1662: every minister must use the Book of Common Prayer alone, hold episcopal ordination, and declare 'unfeigned assent and consent' to everything in the book — or lose his living. Unpacked in Movement III. demanded 'unfeigned ASSENT and consent.' The drafters chose the middle word, because it is the only one a statute can reach. Assent can be compelled, surveyed, subscribed. Fiducia cometh by hearing and is the gift of God — outside manufacture in both directions: the machinery could not mint it, and could not confiscate it.
The parable is spine; the reading is fenced in Movement V. What disciplines the reading: the Lord's own interpretation names the mechanisms — nothing is added here that the text lacks. Select a soil.
The wayside — the birds
'Then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart.'
The Architecture Assigned
Interception before understanding: the consensus architecture. License the press, survey the pulpit, gate the narrative — the seed caught before it germinates.
Each architecture documented from its own enactments. The both-ways fence is stated inside the record: the same class of machinery ran in the other direction when other hands held it.
The architecture of manufactured consensus.
One legislative season, one program: the Act of UniformityEnglish statute of 1662: every minister must use the Book of Common Prayer alone, hold episcopal ordination, and declare 'unfeigned assent and consent' to everything in the book — or lose his living. Unpacked in Movement III. and the Licensing of the Press Act, both 1662, the same Parliament — pulpit and press gated together. Pre-publication censorship, the Stationers' monopolyThe Stationers' Company — the London printing guild whose legal monopoly was the enforcement mechanism of pre-publication licensing., and a crown office titled Surveyor of the PressCrown censorship office created under the Licensing of the Press Act 1662; held by Roger L'Estrange.. The subscription regime made preaching a licensed profession; the Test Act1673: receiving Anglican communion made the legal qualification for civil and military office — the sacrament as filter. 1673 made the Lord's Supper the qualifying instrument for office — the sacrament as filter. Consensus was not discovered in the parishes; it was surveyed from above.
The Clarendon CodeThe 1661–1665 cluster of enforcement statutes: the Corporation Act, the Act of Uniformity, the Conventicle Act, and the Five Mile Act. as a machine with four gears: purge the corporations, eject the ministers (on the tithe-forfeiture dateThe Act took effect just before the year's tithes (the parish minister's income) came due — so the ejected forfeited the year already labored.), criminalize the gathering of more than five, exile the ejected beyond five miles of influence. The universities subscription-locked into the 1870s — the baccalaureate, the laurel-berry degree itself, confessionally gated for two centuries: no assent, no wreath, no profession. And the writ de excommunicato capiendoLatin writ, 'for the taking of the excommunicated': a person excommunicated by the church courts could be arrested by the sheriff. Spiritual exclusion with civil teeth. put the sheriff behind the excommunication: exclusion from the Table was exclusion from civil society. Both-ways fence, stated once: the Directory-era1645–1660: Parliament's Directory for Public Worship replaced the Prayer Book, whose use was itself criminalized — the same machinery, other hands. authorities of 1645–1660 ran the same class of machinery in the other direction. The defendant is the machine, whoever cranks it.
The architecture of the corral — controlled opposition by statute.
The Toleration Act1689: dissenting worship permitted only in registered meeting-houses with doors unlocked, preachers subscribing — and every civil disability retained. The corral statute. 1689 did not free dissent; it registered it. Meeting-houses recorded with the authorities; worship lawful only with the doors unlocked — the state reserving sight-lines into dissent in the statute's own text; preachers subscribing; every civil disability retained. Dissent moved from the criminal category to the contained category: a licensed pen with a gate the state held. What could not be crushed was corralled, counted, and watched — and taught to be grateful for the pen.
Faith's native soil is named in Scripture, and it is domestic. The audit documents the migration of formation out of the household — carried strictly as displacement: the claim is who forms the child, and nothing stronger.
The seedbed texts: faith's native soil is domestic.
The NT's one portrait of pistis in generational transmission is a household line: the unfeigned faith — anypokritos, un-actable, the exact opposite of compelled assent — that dwelt in Lois, then Eunice, then Timothy. Deuteronomy 6 locates the teaching in the house, on the way, lying down, rising up. Psalm 78 runs the relay: fathers to children to children not yet born, 'that they might set their hope in God.' Job rises early as priest of his house. Malachi hinges the ages on hearts of fathers turned to children. Scripture names the good ground's location, repeatedly, and it is the home.
Carried strictly as displacement — the transfer of formation from household to administered institution — and documented on that basis. Birth: from under one in twenty institutional (1900, America) to effectively all (1970) — the household's first act ceded, the first hour medicalized. Feeding: industrialized to its mid-century nadir before the reversal now officially urged. Diet: processed across the same century. Schooling: compulsory, standardized, secular — the Prussian-Mann modelCompulsory, standardized, state-administered schooling on the Prussian pattern, championed in America by Horace Mann from the 1830s. transferring the formative hours from household to state. Credentialing: admission to influence gated on examined conformity — the subscription-gate of Movement III, secularized and universalized: parrot the prescribed narrative, receive the laurel-berry degree, proceed to influence. Household structure itself fracturing across the window. Each item is a documented migration. The claim is displacement, not toxicity; the exhibit's argument needs nothing stronger and makes nothing stronger.
The audit's meaning: the fourth soil was not attacked — it was unmade.
The three architectures operate on seed already sown: intercept it, scorch it, choke it. The fourth-soil strategy operates earlier — on formation, before hearing. A child birthed, fed, schooled, and credentialed by administered systems, in a fractured household with no priest of the house, is not a hardened hearer; he is unplowed ground — not hostile to the word, simply never prepared for it. In a desert, the shortage is not seed. Prevent the soil and the sower's arithmetic fails without a single overt persecution — which is why the night's latter centuries needed so few martyrs: the stony ground method was obsolete. The good news is in the next movement, and it was hiding in the sieve the whole time.
⚑ Conviction — labeled as such, kept off the spine
The chronological frame — held as conviction, fenced as always.
The Wellkeeper's reckoning, carried at conviction-tier under the standing rule (consistent-with is never proven-by): the reign of the saints 525–1525; the serpent loosed at 1491; the night of the eighth dayThe Wellkeeper's name for the 1525–2025 season — a conviction-tier chronology, fenced in Movement V; the audit's structures stand on statute without it. from 1525 to 2025 — terminating at the close of 120 Jubilees from Genesis 6:3, the season in which the serpent and the fallen realm became eligible for judgment, night become day. The three architectures and the displacement audit stand as structures on statute and record without any date carrying weight; the dates say when the Wellkeeper believes the night ran, not whether the machinery existed. Acts 1:7 and Daniel 12:13 govern: times and seasons are the Father's; the man who received the numbers was told to rest.
The sower as the serpent's playbook — a reading, and a disciplined one.
The parable is spine; the threat-model reading is conviction. What disciplines it: the Lord's interpretation names the mechanisms (the wicked one catching away; persecution because of the word; cares and riches choking), so the mapping to the three architectures adds no mechanism the text lacks — it only observes that the night's machinery specialized, one architecture per soil, and that the remaining move against the fourth soil is exactly what the audit documents. Where the reading goes beyond the text — intent, coordination, the serpent's authorship of particular statutes — it stays here in the fence, claimed as conviction, not exhibited as proof.
The corral's founding instance — the capture of the Reformation, 1525–1555.
The reading, with its receipts dated and its limit stated. The protest of 1517 was real, and its central recovery — justification by Another rather than by works — is the doctrine this whole series holds as truth; the man is not read as an asset (an outlaw under death sentence for twenty-five years is a poor candidate, and Rome's losses were catastrophic). What the fence claims is the CAPTURE of the movement, and it is documented inside the sifting window: May 1525, Luther's 'Against the Murdering, Thieving Hordes' sides the reform with the princes in the spring the monasteries burned — the mainline becomes the Magisterial Reformation, reform by and for state power; the princes collect immediately (Prussia secularized April 1525, dissolutions to the treasuries); and Augsburg 1555 says the quiet part in Latin — cuius regio, eius religio, faith converted into an attribute of sovereignty. Two licensed pens now instead of one, both state-held: the corral architecture built continent-wide, a dialectic in operation centuries before the model was published. And the tell that locates the uncontrolled remnant: who BOTH sides killed. The radicals who concluded the church should be free of the state entirely were exterminated by joint verdict — Rome burned them; Protestant Zurich drowned Felix Manz in the Limmat in January 1527, inside the window. When thesis and antithesis agree on which third party must die, the boundary of the managed conflict is visible. The objection that the Reformation 'cost Rome half the empire' holds against Rome-as-controller and fails against MODEL-as-controller: at the model's ledger the Reformation was franchise expansion, not loss. Magisterial Protestantism retained the whole administrative topology — clergy/laity distinction, establishment, parishes, tithes, consistory courts, enforced conformity, credentialed pulpits — with alternate liturgy and doctrine; and the receipt sits in this very exhibit: the peak Nicolaitan statutes documented above (Uniformity, Clarendon, the licensed press, the Test) are PROTESTANT statutes, enacted by a Protestant establishment against Protestant dissenters. The capture tightened: cuius regio handed religion to the local sovereign directly — Lutheran princes titled summus episcopus, Henry 'Supreme Head' — the prince become pope in his own land, closer enforcement than the medieval papacy ever achieved. One aging transnational franchise restructured into dozens of tighter state-integrated ones, the free alternative jointly drowned. Receipts that the countdown was no secret by 1517: Dürer's Apocalypse a best-seller (1498); Savonarola; the 1524 grand-conjunction flood panic (hundreds of pamphlets, a continent provisioning for the end); and above all the Fifth Lateran Council's 1516 restriction on preaching fixed dates for coming evils and Antichrist — a conciliar gag order on the countdown, issued the year before the theses: bans on date-preaching are evidence of mass counting, not its absence. And the successor apparatus carries a synchronized charter: the Society of Jesus approved in 1540 — the year the last English monastery surrendered — not monastic at all: mobile, centrally commanded, education-focused, vowed to the pope directly; the contemplative rest-apparatus dies and the activist formation-apparatus is chartered in the same twelvemonth. Spine: the tract, the profits, Manz, Augsburg, summus episcopus, Lateran V's 1516 restriction, the 1524 panic, 1540. Fence: the reading that the window's deepest sorting was not Rome versus Wittenberg but administered religion in every flavor versus the free remnant — the corral's gates closing on either side, and the door of Matthew 25 shutting above the scene.
The verdict: the sifting fell short — and the sieve was never his.
Amos 9:9 is the floor under the whole night: 'I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth.' Satan requested the sifting; the sieve remained in other hands, with a not-one-grain guarantee under it. The record of the night shows where the grain kept turning up: on a tidal rock outside the parish maps, in Bedford jail, at unlicensed firesides, in the widow's doorway — pistis found precisely outside the administered structure, because fiduciaTrust — the resting of the person on the Person; the third component of faith in the Reformed analysis (after knowledge and assent), and the one no statute can compel. was never administrable. Held as conviction: the serpent's file has reached its final page (Revelation 20:10), the fallen realm stands judged, night has become day — and the present season is characterized by exactly the two provisions the Judge of all the earth would grant if repentance were the goal: tools to search for truth without great hindrance (the run tooled — companion exhibit, 1981), and space to repent (2 Peter 3:9). The question of Luke 18:8 was open and only partly rhetorical. The answer the night actually returned: yes — sifted, strengthened, and found. What passes through a sieve is not the chaff.
Movement VI — Where Faith Was Found
The record of the night's confessors
Outside the administered structure — every time.
John Flavel, one of the ejected ministers, preaching at Saltstone Rock — a tidal rock in a Devon estuary, outside the parish maps, exposed only at low water — to hearers who rowed out between the tides. John Bunyan in Bedford jail for unlicensed preaching, writing The Pilgrim's Progress — the book the licensed presses would never have passed. Two thousand livingsA minister's 'living': his parish position and everything attached to it — house, income, tithes. To lose the living was to lose home and livelihood together. surrendered in the Great EjectionThe mass expulsion of some two thousand nonconforming ministers from the Church of England when the Act of Uniformity's deadline fell on August 24, 1662 — 'Black Bartholomew's Day.' of August 24, 1662, when the Act of UniformityEnglish statute of 1662: every minister must use the Book of Common Prayer alone, hold episcopal ordination, and declare 'unfeigned assent and consent' to everything in the book — or lose his living. Unpacked in Movement III.'s deadline fell, by men who would not feign assent. The unlicensed fireside; the widow's doorway; the knock that does not stop. The pattern the record shows is the exhibit's quiet triumph: the thing the machinery was built to administer kept turning up precisely where the administration did not reach — because fiduciaTrust — the resting of the person on the Person; the third component of faith in the Reformed analysis (after knowledge and assent), and the one no statute can compel. was never administrable. The establishment held every building in England. The Word met at low tide.
The gorenThe threshing floor: a prepared, elevated, swept circle of bedrock or beaten clay, sited for the evening wind. — the threshing floor — answers the exegesis: winnowing separates by weight, and glory (Hebrew kabod) literally means weight. Full kernels fall home to the prepared floor by their own gravity; the empty are carried off the edge onto the earth, precisely because there is nothing in them. John the Baptist's 'fan' is the winnowing shovel, and the floor is the Winnower's own — 'he will throughly purge HIS floor.' Amos names the kebarahThe coarse sieve of the region's two-sieve system: good grain passes through the mesh; stones, clods, and straw-knots are caught and thrown out., the coarse sieve through which the grain passes while the pebbles are caught; and the word for the grain that shall not fall — tseror — is the same Hebrew word for the 'bundle of life' in which the soul is bound with the LORD (1 Samuel 25:29). And the Temple itself was built on a threshing floor: David bought the floor of Araunah at full price, at the spot where the judgment-angel's sword was stayed, and Solomon raised the house there. The house of God stands, by street address, on the platform where wheat is parted from chaff. The sifting was never an interruption of the promise. It was the construction site.
The question was asked before the night began, and it was open: when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? The audit above is the adversary's best answer — three architectures against the sown seed and a displacement campaign against the soil itself, a program to ensure the question closed at no. The verdict of the record is that it fell short, and the reason was in the sieve's own physics from the beginning: the sifting Satan requested, God supervised — yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth. Held as conviction and fenced as such: the file has reached its final page, night has become day, and the present season carries the two provisions a Judge intent on mercy would grant — tools to seek without hindrance, and space to repent. The sieve did its work. It was never his.
WHAT PASSES THROUGH A SIEVE IS NOT THE CHAFF.
Movement VII — The Register
Sources
1.Luke 22:31–32 — the sifting announced, the target named, the countermeasure filed — Luke 22:31–32
'Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith (pistis) fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.' The sifting of the ekklesia is Satan's stated program, on the record; the named target is pistis specifically; and the named countermeasure is not institution, uniformity, or governance — it is intercession. The plural is hiding in the English: 'sift YOU (plural, hymas) as wheat' — the request was for the whole company; the intercession is what held.
2.Luke 18:1–8 — the question of the age, attached to a widow, not an exam — Luke 18:1–8
'When the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith (tēn pistin — THE faith, with the article) on the earth?' Note the placement: the question closes the parable of the persistent widow — a powerless woman wearing down an institutional judge who 'feared not God, neither regarded man.' The parable is already a portrait of faith versus governed framework: the unjust bench, and the knock that does not stop. Christ attached His question about the end of the age to that picture, not to a doctrinal examination. The question was open and only partly rhetorical.
3.Pistis (G4102) — the word study — BDAG / Thayer s.v. pistis; from peithō; Habakkuk 2:4 (emunah / LXX ek pisteōs); James 2:19; Romans 10:17; Ephesians 2:8
Pistis, from peithō (to persuade, be persuaded), carries four senses: personal trust (the leaning of the whole man); faithfulness as character (fruit of the Spirit, Gal 5:22; 'the faith of God' meaning His fidelity, Rom 3:3); the faith as the deposit ('the faith once delivered unto the saints,' Jude 3); and assurance/proof (Acts 17:31). Hebrew counterpart: emunah, from aman — firmness, the amen-root — Habakkuk 2:4's 'the just shall live by his emunah,' rendered ek pisteōs by the LXX and quoted three times as the NT's thesis. Faith, Hebraically, is holding-fast-because-held-fast. Its origin is expressly outside manufacture: it cometh by hearing (Rom 10:17) and is the gift of God (Eph 2:8).
4.Notitia, assensus, fiducia — and the statute that chose the middle word — Reformed scholastic analysis of saving faith (cf. Calvin, Institutes III.ii); James 2:19; Act of Uniformity 1662, the declaration clause
The Reformation's own scholastics analyzed saving faith into three components: notitia (knowledge of the content), assensus (assent that it is true), and fiducia (trust — the resting of the person on the Person). Devils possess the first two — 'the devils also believe, and tremble' (James 2:19) — and lack only the third. The Act of Uniformity's operative demand was 'unfeigned ASSENT and consent to all and everything contained' in the annexed book. The statute's drafters chose the word. The entire apparatus of imposed conformity could compel assensus and nothing else: assent can be legislated; fiducia cannot — it is planted by hearing and kept by intercession. The machinery could neither create the thing Luke 18:8 asks about, nor destroy it.
5.The parable of the sower — with the Lord's own interpretation of the mechanisms — Matthew 13:3–23; Mark 4:3–20; Luke 8:4–15
The interpretation names the mechanisms, not merely the outcomes. The wayside: 'then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart' — interception before understanding. The stony ground: 'when tribulation or persecution ariseth BECAUSE OF THE WORD, by and by he is offended' — persecution named in the text as the mechanism. The thorns: 'the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word' — distraction and mammon. The good ground (Luke's wording): 'an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.' Three mechanisms against seed already sown; the fourth soil is the one no mechanism defeats — which defines the remaining move.
6.The consensus architecture — press licensed, pulpit surveyed, sacrament made a filter — Licensing of the Press Act 1662; Roger L'Estrange, Surveyor of the Press; episcopal preaching licenses and subscription; Test Act 1673
In the same legislative season as the Act of Uniformity, the same Parliament passed the Licensing of the Press Act 1662: pre-publication censorship, the Stationers' monopoly, and a crown office literally titled Surveyor of the Press (Roger L'Estrange). Liturgical uniformity and print licensing were one program, enacted together — pulpit and press gated in one session. The subscription regime added the signature-gate (episcopal license to preach; the Thirty-Nine Articles), and the Test Act 1673 made receiving Anglican communion the qualification for civil and military office: the Lord's Supper converted into a loyalty instrument. Consensus was not discovered; it was surveyed.
7.The shunning architecture — the Clarendon Code, the locked universities, the sheriff at the altar rail — Corporation Act 1661; Act of Uniformity 1662; Conventicle Act 1664; Five Mile Act 1665; Oxford/Cambridge subscription (to Universities Tests Act 1871); writ de excommunicato capiendo
Municipal purge (Corporation Act); ejection with the tithe-forfeiture date (Uniformity, effective St. Bartholomew's Day 1662, just before the year's tithes came due); criminalized assembly — more than five beyond the household (Conventicle); internal exile — no ejected minister within five miles of any town or former parish (Five Mile). The universities were subscription-locked: Oxford required subscription to the Articles at matriculation, Cambridge at the degree — dissenters could not graduate until the reforms of 1854–1871. The baccalaureate — the laurel-berry degree — was confessionally gated for two centuries: no assent, no wreath, no profession, no influence. And excommunication carried civil teeth: the writ de excommunicato capiendo delivered the excommunicated to arrest. Exclusion from the Table was exclusion from society, enforced by the sheriff. Both-ways fence: the Directory-era authorities of 1645–1660 had criminalized the Prayer Book and ejected its clergy with the same class of instrument. The defendant is the machinery, whoever holds the handle.
8.The corral — the Toleration Act 1689 registered dissent; it did not free it — Toleration Act 1689, provisions on registered meeting-houses, unlocked doors, subscription, and retained disabilities
The Act's own mechanics: dissenting worship lawful only in meeting-houses registered with the authorities; only with the doors NOT locked, barred, or bolted — the state reserved sight-lines into dissent by statute; preachers subscribing to most of the Articles; and every civil disability retained — no office, no university degree, no commission. Dissent moved from the criminal category to the contained category: a licensed pen with a gate the state held. Toleration as corral, in the statute's own text.
The one place the NT shows pistis in generational transmission: 'the unfeigned faith (anypokritos pistis — un-hypocritical, un-actable, the exact opposite of compelled assent) that dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also' (2 Tim 1:5). The seedbed is the household line: Deuteronomy 6's diligent teaching in the house, by the way, lying down, rising up; Psalm 78's fathers-to-children relay 'that the generation to come might know... that they might set their hope in God'; Job rising early as priest of his house, offering for his children; Malachi's hinge of the ages — turning the hearts of the fathers to the children, lest the earth be smitten with a curse. Faith's native soil is named, repeatedly, and it is domestic.
10.The displacement audit — childhood's migration from household to administered institutions — Standard social history: institutional birth statistics; mid-century infant-feeding practice and its reversal; compulsory schooling (Prussian model; Horace Mann); household composition trends
Documented as displacement — the transfer of the household's functions to administered systems — and carried on that basis only. Birth: under 5% of American births were institutional in 1900; roughly 99% by 1970 — the household's first act ceded to the institution, the first hour of life medicalized. Feeding: industrial formula displaced breastfeeding to its mid-century nadir (initiation rates near one in five by the early 1970s) before the reversal that official bodies now urge. Diet: the processed-food share of childhood rose across the same century. Schooling: compulsory, standardized, and secular on the Prussian-Mann model, with hours and formation transferred from household to state. Credentialing: admission to influence gated on examined conformity to the prescribed narrative — the subscription-gate of the prior architecture, secularized and universalized. Household structure itself fractured across the same window. NOTE, in the discipline of the house: this source carries no medical-harm claims; its claim is displacement — who forms the child — not toxicity. The exhibit's argument does not need the stronger claim and does not make it.
11.Where faith was actually found — the record of the night's confessors — Flavel at Saltstone Rock (Salcombe estuary); Bunyan, Bedford jail, 1660–72; Calamy's account of the ejected
John Flavel, ejected from Dartmouth, driven beyond the Five Mile Act's radius, preached in the woods at night and at Saltstone Rock — a tidal rock in the Salcombe estuary, exposed at low water, covered at high, outside the parish jurisdictions the Act's geography ran on. The establishment held every building in England; the Word met at low tide on ground the map did not cover. Bunyan wrote The Pilgrim's Progress in Bedford jail under the Conventicle regime. The pattern the record shows: the thing the machinery was built to administer kept turning up outside the administered structure — on rocks, in jails, at unlicensed firesides — precisely where the widow keeps knocking.
12.The verdict texts — the sieve's owner, the adversary's file, the space to repent — Amos 9:9; Revelation 20:10; 2 Peter 3:9; Daniel 12:4; Acts 1:7; Daniel 12:13
Amos 9:9 gives the sieve its owner and its promise: 'I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth.' The apparatus sharpens the promise. Amos names the kebarah — in the documented two-sieve system of the region (Dalman's fieldwork), the coarse sieve through which GOOD GRAIN PASSES to the floor or spread cloth while stones, clods, and straw-knots are retained and discarded. And 'the least grain' is tseror — primarily a PEBBLE: not a pebble falls through with the grain, and the next verse names the pebbles ('all the sinners of my people shall die by the sword'). The sieve misses in neither direction: no kernel lost, no stone smuggled through — passing through is the salvation; being caught is the judgment. Tseror also means a bound pouch — 'bound in the bundle (tseror) of life with the LORD thy God' (1 Sam 25:29): the word inside the not-one-shall-fall promise is the word for the soul kept in God's own pouch. And 'fall to the earth' is the histories' standing idiom for nothing-lost (1 Sam 3:19; 2 Kings 10:10 — none of His words fall to the ground): Amos applies to God's grain the idiom of God's promises. The sifting Satan requested, God supervised — and the floor under it is not a metaphor. Revelation 20:10 remains the final page of the adversary's file. 2 Peter 3:9: the longsuffering is 'not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance' — the space to repent as the purpose of the season. Daniel 12:4's unsealed running and increased knowledge — the tools to search without great hindrance — is chronicled in the companion exhibit '1981 — The Year the Run Was Tooled.' Governing rule as always: Acts 1:7 and Daniel 12:13 — times and seasons are the Father's; the man who received the numbers was told to rest.
13.The floor, the wind, and the weight — the goren and its physics — Threshing-floor practice (goren; morag; mizreh; the evening wind); Psalm 1:4; Matthew 3:12; 2 Samuel 24 with 2 Chronicles 3:1; Ruth 3; kabod (weight/glory)
The goren was constructed ground: a swept circle of bedrock or beaten clay on an elevated, windward site, often stone-bordered. Winnowing tossed the threshed mass into the evening wind over the floor, and the wind separated BY WEIGHT: full kernels fall home onto the clean floor by their own gravity; empty chaff is carried off the floor's edge onto the loose earth and is lost (Psalm 1:4). Landing on the prepared floor is preservation; leaving it for the earth is perdition. The Hebrew pun underneath is load-bearing: glory is kabod — literally weight, heaviness. The wind of the floor asks one question: do you weigh anything? Glory lands; vanity departs on the wind — and the wind is ruach. The Baptist's image assumes all of it: the ptyon (winnowing shovel) in His hand, 'and he will throughly purge HIS floor' — the goren belongs to the Winnower. And the capstone: the Temple stands on a threshing floor — David bought the goren of Araunah on Moriah at full price, at the spot where the plague-angel's sword was stayed, and Solomon built the house there (2 Chron 3:1). The house of God is built where judgment stopped, on the platform where grain is parted from chaff; the sifting promise and the sanctuary share an address. Grace-note for the night season: Ruth secured the kinsman-redeemer at the threshing floor, at night, beside the winnowed heap.
