Daniel was told to seal the book. John was told not to — same verb, same nouns, opposite command — and each was given a reason using the same word for time: Daniel's kairos was far, John's is near. Between them runs a condition, and the condition is teaching. But the arc does not end in a better teacher. It ends where teaching stops.
"Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand."
Revelation 22:10 · μὴ σφραγίσῃς — the exact reversal of Daniel 12:4
The Finding
The unsealing is not a puzzle solved. It is a sequence, welded at every joint with a single repeated verb. σφραγίζω seals Daniel's book and is forbidden over John's. διδάσκω names the condition that ends the seal — until many are taught — and names the terminus that ends the teaching — they shall teach no more. Which yields the thing this page exists to say: mediation multiplies and then goes to zero. Every instrument, every book, every teacher belongs to the middle of the arc. The end of it retires them all — including this page.
I · The Seal
Shut up the words, and seal the book
Daniel receives the longest prophecy in his book and is immediately told to close it. Not to burn it, not to explain it — to seal it, and to seal it until. The instruction carries a terminus inside it, which is the first sign that the sealing was always temporary.
SPINEAND THE SEAL IS CONDITIONAL
Theodotion's Greek — the Daniel the Church actually reads — makes the terminus explicit and conditional: σφράγισον τὸ βιβλίον ἕως καιροῦ συντελείας ἕως διδαχθῶσιν πολλοὶ καὶ πληθυνθῇ ἡ γνῶσις — seal the book until the time of completion, until many are taught and the knowledge is multiplied. The seal is not a vault. It is a timer with a condition attached, and the condition is people learning.
SPINEAND IT IS NOT SCIENCE — IT IS THE BOOK
The Hebrew is הַדָּעַת — haddaʿat, and the Greek keeps the article: ἡ γνῶσις.The knowledge. Not knowledge at large. This is not a novel reading — Calvin rendered it "Many shall investigate, and knowledge shall increase," and Leupold"Many shall diligently peruse it." The running to and fro is not travel and not technology. It is eyes moving across a page. Daniel 12:4 describes people reading the sealed book until they understand it — which is precisely the condition under which it stops being sealed.
SPINEFENCED HONESTLY — THE OLD GREEK SAYS THE OPPOSITE
The house publishes what would break it, and this would. There are two Greek Daniels. Theodotion, quoted above, reads until many are taught and the knowledge is multiplied. The Old Greek — the original Septuagint Daniel, displaced early and surviving in barely a handful of witnesses — reads ἕως ἂν ἀπομανῶσιν οἱ πολλοὶ καὶ πλησθῇ ἡ γῆ ἀδικίας: until many go mad and the earth is filled with unrighteousness. Not taught — maddened. Not knowledge — iniquity. Three witnesses, three readings: the Hebrew has roving, Theodotion has teaching, the Old Greek has madness. This house holds Theodotion, and says so — because it is the text the Church received and has read for eighteen centuries. But a reader who knows Daniel's textual history will reach for Papyrus 967, and he should find that we got there first.
II · The Inversion
John reverses Daniel using Daniel's own words
Set the two commands side by side and every element turns over. Same verb. Same nouns. Same word for time. Opposite instruction, opposite distance.
Four elements of one sentence, turned over. Three of the four are the same Greek lexeme in opposite polarity — which is why this is spine and not resemblance. Every cell is checkable against a concordance.
The Verb
σφραγίζω · sphragizō
Daniel
Daniel 12:4 · Theodotion
σφράγισον
sphragison
aorist imperative · a command
SEAL
⇋
John
Revelation 22:10
μὴ σφραγίσῃς
mē sphragisēs
aorist subjunctive + μή · a prohibition
DO NOT SEAL
SPINEWhat It Says
The same verb, and it is not a common one. One prophet is commanded to do the thing the other is forbidden to do — and forbidden with the standard Greek construction for prohibition, μή plus the aorist subjunctive. This is not two authors reaching independently for a similar image. It is John reversing Daniel on purpose, using Daniel's own word. And note where else this verb lives: Ephesians 4:30 — ye were sealed (ἐσφραγίσθητε) unto the day of redemption. The verb that seals the book is the verb that seals the reader.
III · The Days
In the days when he is about to sound
Revelation 10:7 is where most readers reach for the word solved, and the Greek will not give it — but it gives something the English hides, and it is worth having exactly.
SPINEIT IS A DURATION, NOT AN INSTANT
ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις — dative plural. In the days. And ὅταν μέλλῃ σαλπίζειν — ὅταν plus the present subjunctive of μέλλω, to be about to. Not when he sounds. When he is about to sound. The verse locates the finishing inside a stretch of days during which the trumpet is impending and has not yet blown. That is a run-up. It is a countdown. The English flattens it to a moment; the Greek gives days.
SPINEBUT ἐτελέσθη IS FINISHED, NOT SOLVED
καὶ ἐτελέσθη τὸ μυστήριον τοῦ θεοῦ — aorist passive of τελέω: brought to its end, completed, finished. The same verb that closes at the cross — τετέλεσται. And John had the other word: his book is titled with it — Ἀποκάλυψις, the uncovering — and at 10:7 he did not reach for it. Note also τὸ μυστήριον is singular, and εὐηγγέλισεν says God had already announced it to his servants the prophets. The mystery was never a cipher awaiting clever men. It was declared, and it is unfinished. What 10:7 promises is not that the puzzle gets cracked. It is that the thing already told gets completed — passively, by a hand that is not ours.
SCAFFOLDWHICH LOSES YOU NOTHING
The unsealing does not need 10:7 to mean solved, because 22:10 already carries the opening — stated with σφραγίζω, twice, in opposite directions, with the reason given both times. Let 10:7 mean finished and let 22:10 mean opened. The argument keeps its spine and hands a hostile reader nothing to pull.
IV · The Arc
Daniel to Jeremiah, welded with one verb
Here is the joint that turns two isolated verses into a sequence, and it is a single lexeme appearing at both ends.
SPINEδιδάσκω, AT BOTH ENDS
Daniel 12:4, Theodotion: σφράγισον τὸ βιβλίον ἕως διδαχθῶσιν πολλοὶ — seal the book until many are taught.Jeremiah 38:34, LXX: καὶ οὐ μὴ διδάξωσιν ἕκαστος τὸν πολίτην αὐτοῦ — and they shall teach no more, every man his neighbour. The same verb marks the condition and the terminus. The seal runs until many are taught; the teaching runs until it stops. And Hebrews 8:11 quotes Jeremiah's clause verbatim in Greek — οὐ μὴ διδάξωσιν — so the New Testament reads it as still outstanding.
The terminus is not a better teacher. It is no teacher. Mediation is near zero while the book is shut, multiplies through the phase Daniel's condition names, and returns to zero when Jeremiah retires the teachers — for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest.
SPINEAND THE TERMINUS IS THE ABOLITION OF MEDIATION
Read what Jeremiah actually promises, because it is not what most expect. ὅτι πάντες εἰδήσουσίν με ἀπὸ μικροῦ αὐτῶν καὶ ἕως μεγάλου αὐτῶν — for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest. The teaching does not become perfect. It becomes unnecessary, and therefore ceases. The end state is not a better instrument between the knower and the known. It is no instrument. Every mediator — every prophet, every priest, every commentary, every teacher, every clever engine — is a feature of the middle of the arc. The terminus retires them.
"And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour... for they shall all know me."
Jeremiah 31:34 — the promise is not a better teacher. It is the end of teaching.
SCAFFOLDWHICH IS ALSO THE TEST
This cuts one way and it cuts cleanly. Any instrument that multiplies teaching — however powerful, however sudden, however well-timed — sits in the hump. It is evidence of διδαχθῶσιν, the phase Jeremiah ends. It cannot be the terminus, because the terminus is defined as its absence. So the arrival of a mighty teacher is a sign of the penultimate, not the ultimate — and the temptation to read the newest and loudest mediator as the fulfilment is exactly the error the verse forecloses. The house marks this scaffold: the reading of Jeremiah is plain, but the application is a judgement and is offered as one.
Where That Leaves It
SPINE: σφραγίζω appears in Daniel 12:4 and Revelation 22:10 with the same objects — τοὺς λόγους, τὸ βιβλίον — one commanded, one forbidden, each with a καιρός reason, far and near; Theodotion makes the seal conditional on διδαχθῶσιν; haddaʿat is definite and means understanding of this prophecy, per Calvin and Leupold; διδάσκω welds Daniel's condition to Jeremiah's terminus; Revelation 10:7 has ἡμέραις plural and ὅταν μέλλῃ σαλπίζειν, a run-up, while ἐτελέσθη is finished and not revealed. SCAFFOLD: that any multiplying instrument therefore belongs to the middle of the arc rather than its end. THE FENCE: the Old Greek Daniel reads until many go mad and the earth is filled with unrighteousness — the exact inverse of Theodotion — and this house declares Theodotion rather than pretending the other witness is absent. Consistent-with is never proven-by.

Which means this page has an expiry date
Follow the arc honestly and it arrives somewhere uncomfortable for anyone who writes exhibits. Daniel's seal runs until many are taught. Jeremiah's promise is that they shall teach no more. Between those two clauses stands every instrument that ever helped a person understand the book — every commentary, every lexicon, every concordance, every teacher who ever loved a verse enough to explain it. All of them are the hump. None of them is the terminus.
This exhibit is a teacher. It is a good-faith instrument of διδαχθῶσιν, and its whole function is to become unnecessary. It belongs to the middle of the arc, and the thing it is arguing for is the state in which it no longer exists. That is not a defect in the page. It is what the page is for. An honest mediator argues for his own retirement.
So the promise of Revelation 10:7 was never that clever men would crack it. ἐτελέσθη — it is finished — the same word spoken from the cross, in the same voice, passive, by a hand that is not ours. The mystery does not get solved. It gets completed. And on the far side of it there is no book to seal, no teacher to consult, and no glass to see through — only πρόσωπον πρὸς πρόσωπον, face to face, and all shall know him, from the least unto the greatest.
Unity in Truth. Consistent-with is never proven-by.
