The debate is almost always 30 CE against 33 CE — and neither survives the full set of constraints. This exhibit states the constraints first, then puts every candidate year before the same tribunal. One year passes. The case names its own weakest joint and carries its ornaments fenced.
Two textual anchors, stated before any year is proposed, so that no year can bend them afterward.
The tomb was found empty on day one of the week. Four independent attestations (Matt 28:1; Mark 16:2, 9; Luke 24:1; John 20:1), with the idiom μία τῶν σαββάτων fixed as “day of the week” from inside the corpus (Luke 18:12 — “I fast twice τοῦ σαββάτου,” twice a week; likewise 1 Cor 16:2) and from before the church existed: the Greek Psalter superscribes τῆς μιᾶς σαββάτων on the very psalm the Temple sang on day one (Mishnah Tamid 7:4). A pre-Christian Jewish idiom cannot be a later ecclesial invention. Spine
That day was the third day from the dying. Roughly a dozen statements across the gospels, Acts, and the pre-Pauline creed (1 Cor 15:4), the count anchored to the death by the texts themselves (“be killed, and be raised the third day”), and the inclusive counting convention certified by hostile witnesses: the priests hear “after three days” and guard the tomb “until the third day” (Matt 27:63–64). Backward arithmetic from day one of the week therefore demands a cross on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of Nisan 14/15 — no other weekday has a path. Spine
The rule that generates the computed weekdays, and why the case survives without it.
This corpus holds, and litigates elsewhere, a full-moon reckoning of the month: Nisan 1 is the first day after the first full moon following the spring equinox, placing Passover at the dark of the moon. The weekday computations in this exhibit are generated under that rule, using standard astronomical algorithms cross-checked on two independent planetarium engines and calibrated against the documented eclipse record of the era. But note what the case does not require. Under the conventional crescent reckoning — month beginning at first visibility, Passover at the full moon — Nisan 14 of 27 CE falls on Thursday or Friday, April 10–11 (Julian). Under the full-moon reckoning it falls on Wednesday, April 23. Midweek-to-Friday either way: 27 CE satisfies the third-day constraint under both calendars and both counting conventions. The year is robust to the calendar dispute — a property no other candidate year in the tribunal shares.

Herod died in spring 4 BCE — Josephus brackets the death between a lunar eclipse and a Passover — so the birth precedes it. Spine. Herod’s decree against boys two years old and under (Matt 2:16) implies the star’s first appearance up to two years before the Magi stood in his court: a 7 BCE birth, a 5 BCE audience, an escape to Egypt with a year to spare. And 7 BCE carries a signature no neighboring year has: the triple conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in Pisces — May, September, December — the two slow wanderers meeting three times in a single constellation, visible for months, the configuration Kepler himself flagged as the Magi’s candidate. Triple conjunctions of these two recur only on the order of once in 139 years, and in Pisces far more rarely. This is the case’s strongest single astronomical anchor. From 7 BCE, thirty years (no year zero) lands in spring 24 CE. Luke 3:23’s ὡσεὶ ἐτῶν τριάκοντα, taken at its word, puts the baptism there — April 24 CE — where the 30 and 33 CE chronologies must stretch “about thirty” to thirty-six or thirty-nine. The shape that follows is the one John’s Gospel actually records: Cana that summer (John 2:1–11), a first Passover in Jerusalem in spring 25 (2:13), the Nazareth reading of “the acceptable year of the Lord” in that same spring (Luke 4:16–19) as the potent phase of the ministry opens in Galilee, the Passover of John 6:4 in 26, and the cross at the Passover of 27 — three Passovers, no disputed verse. The earlier two-Passover reading of this case (Clement’s temporal “acceptable year”; Irenaeus’s text of John apparently lacking 6:4) is retired: it is no longer needed, and 6:4 stands. Scaffold

Sixty-nine weeks of years — 483 — from the decree of Artaxerxes’ seventh year (Ezra 7, 457 BCE): 457 BCE + 483 = 27 CE, Messiah cut off, landing on the cross with no gap theory and no recalibrated “prophetic years.” The 33 CE chronology needs the 444 BCE decree plus 360-day years to force its sum; 30 CE has no sum at all. Caveat carried openly: decree-selection is a real degree of freedom (538, 520, 457, and 444 are all defensible epochs), so this is convergence-consistent, never convergence-proven. Scaffold

The one convention ambiguity in the calendar (morning-count versus sunset-count) yields Wednesday or Thursday — both established harmonizations, the literal three-days-and-three-nights or the inclusive third-day. The year is indifferent to the ambiguity.

Yet the calendar earns a note of honor here. Luke 23:45’s harder manuscript reading is τοῦ ἡλίου ἐκλιπόντος — the sun eclipsing, the technical verb — a reading so impossible under a full-moon Passover that Origen suspected corruption and Julius Africanus rebuked Thallus for calling the darkness an eclipse at all. Under a dark-moon Passover, and only under it, Luke’s word could ever have been literal. The calendar makes the eclipse conceivable; the astronomy makes it false; both facts are computed. Scaffold
The sufficient secondary cause is in season: the khamsin — the spring dust wind of March–May — dims the sun to an eerie regional darkness for hours, matching duration, extent, and quality. Scaffold. A dust wind timed to the sixth hour and lifted at the ninth, bracketing the dying exactly, is not a defeat for divine agency — it is the signature of the God who works through secondary causes and hides in plain sight. Each carries its base rate on its face. Ornament that hides its base rate is smuggling.
The consensus dates survive by not being asked all the questions at once. This case asks them together, shows where its own weight rests, and invites the reader to check the arithmetic, the grammar, and the sky — none of which belongs to the author. First seek truth, then explain truth.
